Chocolate Cake in a Mug Gift ingredients:

  • 15g/1 tablespoon and ½ teaspoon plain/all-purpose flour
  • 7g/½ tablespoon sugar – caster, granulated or brown sugar
  • 2g/1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa
  • ⅛ teaspoon instant coffee powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 15g/2 – 3 teaspoons chopped chocolate
  • 1 x microwave safe coffee or tea mug
  • 1 plastic bag
  • cellophane and ribbon
  • instructions to make the cake

Ingredients to finish making the Chocolate Cake in a Mug:

  • 1 x Chocolate Cake in a Mug Gift
  • 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon milk
  • 1½ teaspoons sunflower or vegetable oil

To serve:

  • ice cream, cream or custard
  • a drizzle of chocolate, sprinkles or chopped nuts

Instructions

How to make Chocolate Cake in a Mug Gifts

  1. Collect all your ingredients and equipment (See Recipe Notes) together.

  2. Weigh all the ingredients into the plastic bag. Remove as much air from the bag as possible and seal.

  3. Place the bag inside the mug.

  4. Wrap the whole mug in cellophane and tie with ribbon.

  5. Don’t forget to add cooking instructions to give with the gift.

How to make this super fast ‘hug in a mug’:

  1. Collect all your ingredients together.

  2. Tip out the contents of the bag into the mug and stir well.

  3. Add the oil and milk and stir to thoroughly mix.

  4. Cook in the microwave on high for 1 minute. Leave to sit for a further minute before eating.

  5. To serve: sprinkle with icing sugar and eat either as is or with your choice of serving options, such as cream, ice cream, sprinkles, a drizzle of chocolate, chopped nuts.

  6. NB Please note that the power in microwave ovens varies. You may find that you need to alter timings to suit your oven. My microwave is 1000 watts on high and it takes exactly 1 minute, plus 1 minute standing, to cook this cake.
