I think we have found the perfect balance of orange, chocolate and sweetness. Serves 1
Collect together your equipment (see Recipe Notes below) and ingredients.
Break up the chocolate and blitz in a food processor to make fine crumbs. Alternatively, grate the chocolate by hand.
If you are using a milk frother, pour half the milk into the frother now – if you do not have a frother, ignore this and add all the milk to the orange zest.
Pour the remaining milk into a saucepan and add the orange zest.
Stir to mix and heat on low to allow the oils from the orange zest to infuse the milk.
After a couple of minutes, strain the milk and orange through a fine sieve.
Use a spoon to extract as much flavour from the orange zest as possible.
Quickly wash out your saucepan – this will remove any extraneous bits and prevent it from burning when you re-heat the milk.
Pour the orange flavoured milk back into the clean saucepan and add the chocolate.
When you are ready for your hot chocolate, heat the milk and chocolate and also turn on your milk frother, if using.
When the chocolate has melted and hot and the remaining milk is frothy, combine the two and then pour into a mug.
