Honey, Soy and Garlic Sauce with Chilli and Lime

Jump to Recipe

Sweet honey, salty soy, tangy lime and a kick of chilli – a versatile, fuss-free sauce using store cupboard ingredients. Delicious with fish (our favourite is salmon) and chicken or pork, this sauce keeps for a few weeks in the fridge so why not double up the ingredients and save some for a quick meal later. Serve with rice or noodles and dress up with spring onions and sesame seeds and you have a spectacular tasting and looking dish on the table in less than half an hour.

How to make Honey, Soy and Garlic Sauce with Chilli and Lime

Quick, easy and all made in one jam jar or bowl.

Collect all your ingredients together:

  • runny honey
  • soy sauce (I use Kikkoman reduced salt)
  • lime juice (or lemon)
  • roasted sesame oil
  • garlic powder
  • chilli flakes

How to make it:

Measure all the ingredients into a jam jar, screw on the lid firmly and shake well. Alternatively, measure into a small bowl and mix with a balloon whisk. All done and ready to cook.

Ingredients

  • 80g runny honey
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce (I use Kikkoman reduced salt)

  • 1 tablespoon roasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder *1
  • ¼ teaspoon chilli flakes

Instructions

  1. Either:

    a) mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, OR

    b) measure the ingredients directly into a jam jar. Screw on the lid and shake well to mix.

  2. Baste over cooked fish, chicken or pork. Boil for a couple of minutes to thicken and reduce.

Recipe Notes

Equipment

  • kitchen scales and measuring spoons
  • jam jar and lid or mixing bowl and balloon whisk

Garlic – if you prefer to use fresh garlic instead of garlic powder, use 4 cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed

Ginger – this would also be nice with some added fresh ginger. You will need around 15g peeled and grated fresh root ginger or try adding ¼ teaspoon powdered ginger.
